Have you ever locked yourself out of your house or room? I know I have. The good news is that you might just be able to get without a locksmith buy using a credit card or even a butter knife.

This video is great at showing you how to get into a locked door with a credit card but it is also possible to do the same thing with a thin butter knife. Treat the butter knife the same as a credit card but warning there is the possibility of the butter knife getting a little bit bent out of shape.
The types of doors that you are best able to open with a credit card or butter knife are the doors inside your house. Such types of doors are bedroom locks, bathroom locks and even inside garage door locks. Theses locks are easier to open because they not expected to be high security. If you can us a credit card to open your front door you are in big trouble, your house is not very secure.
I would not recommend taking off the molding from around your door that will creat way more problems then contacting a locksmith. If your super passionate about not calling a locksmith and you have molding around your door use a butter knife instead. You can pry the molding up just a little bit to slide in the butter knife and open the door.
Always remember when attempting to open any type of lock to have patience. It takes trained locksmith years to master there trade and there using the right type of tools.
