Hello everyone out there on the wold wide web. In my last post I gave you instructions on how to take off a door knob and how to put on a new one. Today I am going to show you a video on how you can Re-key a simple house lock , in this case a Kwickset lock. I was going to give you step by step instructions but I realized that would just be very confusing so instead I found this video on Youtube that was created by Locksmithman37 on how to re-key a Kwickset lock. You can get a re-key set for one lock at Lowes hardware for about $10.00 they are called Prime-Line Pin Door Locksets Re-Keying Kit. If you have any questions while undertaking this project feel free to leave a comment and ill try to get back to you. Good Luck!!!!
Have you ever seen a lock that does not have a key hole but still has the ability to lock? What do you do if you accidentally lock yourself out with one such lock?
These types of locks are actually quite simple to pick. All you need is something that will fit through the small hole on the lock and cause the inner mechanism to turn a little bit. I would recommend a small screwdriver or a long thin nail.
What Do You Do:
Insert screwdriver into hole on front face of door knob.
Stop inserting the screwdriver when you feel that it has reach some sort of metal inside the lock.
Turn the screwdriver .... and Poof! The lock is unlocked
My adventure started one windy afternoon, I was sitting in my roommates room talking about nothing of importance. When suddenly my bedroom door down the hall slams shut. At the time I thought nothing of this because I don't often lock my door. After a while I when back to my room with its closed door. I reached down and turned the door knob and pushed.
Oddly the door knob turned but the door would still not open. That's when I remembered the the latch on the inside of the door. It must of sprung shut when the door slammed. So here I am a locksmith locked out of her own room.
